Yahoo! have been teasing us with potential Yahoo logo’s every day for 30 days, making us all think which one will they choose? The time has come and their new logo has been unveiled.
“We’re excited to share the new Yahoo logo with you. It will begin appearing across Yahoo properties globally tonight,” Kathy Savitt, Yahoo’s chief marketing officer writes on her blog Wednesday evening (4th September).
The original logo has been in place for 18 years and even though they needed a change, the decision wasn’t taken lightly. Marissa Mayer, who became CEO 14 months ago, became greatly involved in the redesign over the summer.
They wanted a logo that “reflected Yahoo! – whimsical, yet sophisticated. Modern and fresh, with a nod to our history. Having a human touch, personal. Proud.” To emphasise the whimsical look, they wanted to “tilt the exclamation point by nine degrees”.
We must say the changes are good. With the almost three-dimensional font, they have made their logo modern and more refined, but not completely sucking the fun out of the design. They have stuck with their original colours and the feel for the whole brand.
