How effective is ChatGPT for blog writing?

Yes, I know Im late to the party. In fact, i’m very late to the party.

For anyone who is in the digital marketing space you have probably at least heard of OpenAI’s ChatGPT which was released late 2022 and has ever since gained more and more traction and interest from not only the marketing industry but from all over.

I won’t lie, I was one of the sceptical ones. AI has been spoken about lots in the recent years yet I didn’t believe we were quite at the level OpenAI have produced. But with all the recent hype in the last few weeks I decided to give it a crack.

Speaking to ChatGPT

I had seen that people were using it to write blogs, emails and even University assignments so decided to have the following conversation with the AI.

Owen: Hello

AI: Hello! How can I help you today?

Owen: I am looking for help writing a blog, can you help?

AI: Of course! What is the topic of your blog?

Owen: I would like a blog to be written about how useful OpenAi’s ChatGPT is for writing blogs. Can it be about 500 words long please?

After asking the AI to write the blog it took a couple of minutes but it was then able produce the following response.

Sure! Here is a sample blog post about the usefulness of OpenAI’s ChatGPT for writing blogs:

“OpenAI’s ChatGPT: Revolutionising Blog Writing

“In today’s fast-paced digital world, writing high-quality content can be time-consuming and challenging. However, with the advent of AI-powered language models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, writing a blog has never been easier.

ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art language model that uses deep learning algorithms to generate human-like text. It has been trained on a massive amount of data, allowing it to understand and respond to natural language inputs with high accuracy.

One of the most significant advantages of using ChatGPT for blog writing is its ability to save time. With ChatGPT, you can generate a rough draft of your blog post in a matter of minutes. It can also help you with research by suggesting relevant information and data to include in your post. This can be particularly useful for bloggers who are writing on a tight deadline or have a lot of content to produce.

Another advantage of ChatGPT is its ability to improve the quality of your writing. The model’s deep learning algorithms allow it to understand and use natural language patterns, grammar, and style. This means that the text it generates is not only coherent and grammatically correct but also reads like it’s been written by a human.

ChatGPT can also be used for a variety of tasks, including writing social media posts, news articles, and product descriptions. Its flexibility and versatility make it an excellent tool for content creators of all levels, from amateur bloggers to professional writers.

In conclusion, OpenAI’s ChatGPT is a game-changer for the world of blogging. Its ability to save time and improve the quality of writing makes it an invaluable tool for bloggers and content creators. With ChatGPT, writing a blog post has never been easier and more efficient.

The above blog post is around 460 words. Let me know if you need any changes or if you have any other questions”.

What does this mean for blog writing?

As I am sure you will agree, this is a well articulated article that does exactly what I asked it to do and certainly doesn’t appear to be written by AI.

However, having said that, there is still one underlying issue which will prevent me, and many others, from using this for content creation method for websites. And that’s Google. In their terms of use it states the use of autogenerated content is prohibited and there are use cases where websites have been penalised for using such content.

While this answer rises more questions than answers it’s important to realise that this is new, nobody yet knows how Google will respond. Bing have made it clear they are ‘pro’ auto generated content as long as it provides real value. What’s clear is that using AI for SEO is a topic that’s not about to go away any time soon.

Future predictions for Google and AI generated content

In my opinion Google will fight against AI for as long as they can, I imagine we will soon see a Google update addressing the increasing use of AI content and while it’s not impossible to use this AI tool to write high performing content it’s important to understand you may be hit by Google’s penalties. How, when and who for is unclear but in the coming weeks and months this will become more clear.
