Social Media Trends 2018

2018 is here and it is time to start thinking about your social media marketing strategy. Here are a few social media trends that we are expecting to be big this year and to keep ahead of the game you should be incorporating into your plan.

Augmented Reality

We predict that we are going to see a lot more from AR this year. Augmented Reality has only recently become a big trend with social media platforms such as Snapchat and Instagram incorporating it into their applications and offering it as a feature when taking photos and videos.

Now other brands are starting to look into how they can use the technology to improve their customer experience. BMW recently used the feature to show what their newest model would look like in user’s driveways without actually visiting a store. We believe that more and more companies will be employing this technology this year, so to keep up with the competition it may be time to start thinking about how to incorporate it into your marketing campaign.

Influencer Marketing

Many companies are already using Influencer Marketing to increase their brand awareness and generate more leads. We predict that this will continue in 2018 and rise in a big way, as now the costs to hire a social media influencer are much cheaper. Influencers have a large audience, having a following of usually hundreds of thousands to millions. This makes them a great way to market your company as it will ensure a lot of people will become aware of your brand. It has been shown that using influencers can bring 11 times more ROI than other digital marketing techniques, with 49% of people saying they depend on influences for their purchase decisions. With all this in mind, we believe hiring an influencer that will appeal to your target audience to advertise your brand will be worth your time in 2018.

Alignment with IoT (Internet of Things)

IoT was discussed a lot in 2017 and we think this will only increase in 2018. As talks of IoT coming into play very soon, we may start to see a crossover with it and social media. Asking your Alexa or Google Home questions and getting answers based on your social connections, your social media history and other factors such as location could have some excellent results. This can be great for both users and brands as well and could change the way that we market our businesses.

More video

Unsurprisingly video is being predicted by many to be huge in 2018. With video marketing being very successful for many businesses we will continue to see it grow and will become a prominent part of marketing this year. Even Mark Zuckerberg has predicted that 90% of Facebook’s content will be video based in 2018.  Brands will need to incorporate video in to their marketing campaigns this year in order to keep up with competitors and ensure the success of their business.
