Earth Cycle, part of the Woodhorn Group specialises in producing 100% peat free, high quality garden and landscaping topsoil’s and composts.
Earth cycle approached us with an issue. They were traditionally known within the trade industry for their supply of topsoil. They wanted to target direct customer traffic and sales and wanted this generated via their website. They had previously only a very local presence, mostly within 5 miles of their location in Chichester, West Sussex.
They want to expand their business to consumer sales, not only locally, but nationally as well. Something they had never been able to achieve.
Their current site was very limited with order functionality and one of their main barriers in the past to selling nationally was the ability for end user to select a delivery date as they could only delivery on certain days. Also end users were reluctant to order online as they were always worried if they be order either too much or too little topsoil for their needs.
What we did
Our first stage was to access the current website traffic and identify where users were dropping out of the buying process on the current site and why, and to develop solutions to the above-mentioned barriers to end users.
Firstly, alongside the newly designed website, we developed a range of calculators that would allow end users to work out, depending on their project, how many bags or tons of topsoil they need for their project. Ie for a new lawn, they need 3 large bags for a 15 metre by 5 metre area.
The second step was develop a system to allows users to only select from a pre-set date range their delivery date, dependant on their area. We wrote a custom delivery system to enable this.
Alongside the new site design and development, we were retained to develop a digital marketing strategy that encompassed our SEO service & Google Ad campaign management to develop an expanded sales region.

We are now well into in our second year of working on the digital marketing of Earth Cycle.
Our KPIs were to increase the online sales via the website and to also generate commercial enquires for projects such as football pitches etc.
Over the last 12 months we have successfully increased organic traffic for the site by almost 54% via a combination of the right on page and off page SEO techniques.
In the last year alone, we have seen the following increase:
1. Overall, the company now achieves an increase in online sales, in the last year of 134%
2. An increase in average monthly website visitors of 355% (36k vs 7.8k visitors)
3. New users per month increase of 360%
Buoyed by these results our contract with Earth Cycle has already been renewed for a further year.
