Top Content Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

It’s often said that content is king, and it’s certainly critical for most websites to function. Whether it’s reviews on Amazon, videos on YouTube or blog posts on a business site, creating and marketing content is an essential skill to master. At boxChilli, we are involved at all stages in the process, from developing websites, creating content marketing ideas, making the content itself and monitoring campaigns. Here are a few tips you can use:

Create a Schedule – and Stick To It

It’s easy to let a blog or news page slide, and before you know it your ‘news’ is from last July. Assess how much time you’ve got and create a reasonable content plan. Put reminders in your calendar, and stick to them.

Jot Down Any Good Ideas

Make a note of any ideas, industry news or events you want to include in a content marketing scheme. Ideally, plan out topics ahead of time so you can write them up when you’ve got a spare moment. It’s not too far ahead to write your Christmas post in July – if you’ve found the perfect image and a snappy idea, do it. You can always tweak it later.

Keep is Short

Not all posts have to be a thousand words of new prose. If there’s a YouTube video that illustrates your point perfectly, embed it and write a few words as an introduction. Job done.

Reach Out to your Community

One good way to create content people want to read is to answer the questions they’re already asking. Take inspiration from the queries your customers send you or posts in related forums and post an answer on your blog. Of course, you shouldn’t use customers messages or identifying details without permission, but it’s fine to summarize and generalize a common query.

Share your Posts

Use a tool like HootSuite to schedule messages on social media and share your content. Marketing is an important part of this exercise, and if you don’t mention your new oeuvre chances are no one will. Schedule the shares when you schedule the posts.

Schedule Posts Ahead of Time

Want to send a message out on a Monday morning or Friday night? You don’t have to be in the office to press the button. Blog posts, news feed items and social media updates can all be scheduled and released automatically, making content marketing much easier.

Don’t be Afraid to Call in an Expert

You can’t do everything yourself. Even if your business is just you and the cat, it’s still possible to get affordable content delivered direct to your blog. Whether you’re looking for a few posts to get you over a slump or a regular feed from someone in the know, we can help you out. We work with writers and editors who can create new copy quickly and polish your text until every comma shines.
