We have just finished a new site for Flomatik. They approached us after seeing another website we had created and selected us after seeing our abilities to create large complex websites. Their site is over 60 pages in size with integrated dynamic forms, job feeds, all built on a Content Managment system to allow them to update content in the future.

Flomatik is a fast-growing, independent, Professional Services company concentrated in the UK and Northern Europe.

The company specializes in realising Next Generation Networks. They provide technical resources, project delivery, outsourcing and consulting in the IT, Telecommunications, TV and Broadband industries.

The company employs a dynamic workforce of over 100 personnel.

Flomatik have also asked us to create a digital version of the brochure, we’ll post a copy up as soon as we have it ready!

Popular market researcher Nielsen has reported that Google has actually surpassed Facebook in terms of actual visitors per month—although the figures are not far from each other. The search giant had a record of 153.4 million logs from unique visitors in 2011. Meanwhile, social media network Facebook recorded 137.6 million in the same period. These figures only underscore the importance of both search engines and social media in the SEO industry this year. The trend is expected to retain in 2012—or early part of the year at the very least.

SEO experts have capitalized on the use of social media in reaching the most number of online users. Many businesses have also realized its importance so many have put up their social media accounts to expand their respective client base. And the efforts, apparently, did not go into waste. More clients have been retained, and more online users have been invited to join those networks.

More social media options were introduced in 2011, but only a few were useful enough in online marketing and SEO. The relevance of social media is expected to retain, so more businesses consider maintaining their official social media accounts aside from their business websites. This essentially boosts their respective online visibility that could later translate to improved sales and revenues. The best thing about trying social networking sites is that they are quite easy and cheap to maintain, requiring a limited resource from the company while reaching the most number of target clients in the online world. This is, indeed, a way of getting business and brands viral through virtual means.

Spamming posts or tweets with links is one reason why SEO strategies haven’t incorporated social media as much as many believe ought to be the case because the links and other elements found in them cannot be verified. And a lot of overhead has to go into ascertaining a genuine post as against one sent from a bot of some kind. New news media organizations have been established for this very reason – in order to ascertain the authenticity of cell or mobile phone footage, for example, or to establish the identity of a tweeter whose account may or may not be bogus.

The world’s largest social network has begun rolling out functionality that allows Page owners and individual Facebook users to exchange private messages.

Unlike on Twitter, where either party can initiate a direct message, Facebook is requiring that the individual initiate the conversation for now at least.

For brands, social media was supposed to open the door to one-to-one engagement with customers, but in practice, it has for many become primarily a one-to-many marketing platform.

The reason is simple: when you have a few hundred thousand followers on Twitter or a few million fans on Facebook, it’s far easier to market to consumers than it is to communicate with them. Facebook may be looking to change that slightly, however.

As TheNextWeb notes, this new functionality opens the door to “a greater level of customer service on Facebook”. While social media is often more of a marketing platform than a tool for one-on-one communication, more than a few brands are using social media as a customer service channel (or quasi-customer service channel). Now those brands will have an opportunity to do more on Facebook.

Of course, brands interested in using Facebook as a customer service delivery platform will need to consider whether it makes sense. Providing customer service well through services like Twitter and Facebook isn’t always easy – and there is certainly risk for brands that try to use tools that aren’t designed specifically for customer service.

That said, Facebook’s move to facilitate more direct interaction between brands and users is a good one and brands with significant Facebook followings will probably want to explore and make decisions about this new functionality sooner than later.

That being said, today’s social media do not have all that much prominence when it comes to search engine marketing. However, the search engine giants are themselves taking a long and hard look at the likes, retweets, shares and +1s of the social media sites – with the ultimate view that these will be incorporated into the search engine algorithms. The fact that Google has established its own social media site speaks volumes about its intentions.

In recent surveys, an average of less than ten per cent of agencies and companies associated with marketing and more specifically, search engine marketing, regarded social media as having a discernible effect on the rankings of search engines at the moment. However, more than half of those approached contended that things would change within three years. Many agree that SEO campaigns need to have a social media element. Others view social media as separate for the moment – an entirely independent means of gaining subscribers, customers or site visitors. But they still see it as extremely significant.

Experimentation can take the form of strategy and development phases or work can be carried out in real terms, using genuine web sites of client businesses. Either way, a wealth of data pertaining to SEO techniques can be found. The most effective of SEO strategies can be applied to clients’ sites and web presences.

Some of the research being conducted by SEO experts today includes monitoring the ranking of imagery on Google Images and the penalizing of content that has been duplicated from elsewhere on the Web.

Another area of research pertains to the bounce factor involved in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). Search engines can respond to a web surfer bouncing out of a web site after going into it. For example, a user will arrive from Google onto a web page, and then hit the back button to return to Google rather than remaining on the site. How much weight any of the search giants place on this bounce rate is something that needs to be looked at – and this weighting may change over time. Penalizing a web site for a high bounce rate in the search engine listings is not uncommon. The keywords will obviously differ when it comes to a web page’s bounce rate. However, SEO techniques that manipulate rankings will have to take on board web site content in ways that are not often seen: The retention of site visitors is more significant than it was in the past. One SEO technique to reduce bounce rate in this way may be to provide site visitors with links to interesting offsite content so that the visitor does not bounce back to the search engine’s results page in the first place.

The company said that after observing how tweets had started to ‘take on a life of their own’ since they carry so much content, it didn’t want them to separated from the core experience. After all, people engage more when tweets are expanded in line.

Additionally, Twitter wants to make it easier to connect the offline experience of seeing @s and hashtags everywhere with what you then see on Twitter, since these symbols are becoming synonymous with the social network.

Last, Twitter recognises that people want to tweet from anywhere, and they want the experience to be consistent.

Rachel Bremer, European communications manager for Twitter said that mobile usage is skyrocketing and Twitter was built to work on any mobile device – from feature phone in Kenya to high end smartphone in San Francisco or London, but the experience on different mobile platforms and the web isn’t consistent

Because of that, we’re making important changes to the product – changes that we hope closely align with how users, new and old, want to interact.”

She said that in a nutshell, Twitter is now organised around four key areas:

1. Home – your timeline, faster and easier

2. Connect – interact with others and see who’s interacting with you

3. Discover – find great new content from people that you may or may not follow

4. Me – your content like lists, DMs, images
